Klondu reaches agreement with ABB Australia Pty Ltd to purchase the Port Kembla Performance Service Centre Workshops

Klondu is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with ABB Australia to purchase the business and assets of ABB's Port Kembla Performance Service Centre Workshops.

The deal, expected to complete by the end of March 2010, will result in Klondu acquiring the facilities, employees and business operations of the Fabrication, Machining, and Heat Treatment Workshops located within Steelhaven, Port Kembla and primarily servicing Bluescope Steel

Klondu currently operates from two sites and the Company intends to consolidate it's operations onto the Port Kembla site over the coming months.

According to Phil Panozzo, Klondu's General Manager, "The acquisition of the Port Kembla Service Centre Business, along with the purchase of Hamar Engineering in May 2008, positions Klondu as the leading fabrication and machining Company in the Illawarra and allows us to focus on providing our customers with the complete solution for their product and service needs."

Mr Chez Cignarella added that "the workshop facilities at Port Kembla are second to none, providing up to 100 tonnes lifting capacity, more than 17,000 square metres of covered area for fabrication and machining activities, a further 4,000 square metres for Heat Treatment operations and significant external hardstand area. This is a tremendous opportunity for Klondu, taking us a step closer to achieving our goal of becoming the one stop shop for our customers".

Offering heavy engineering expertise across the Mining and Metals industry, the Klondu Group now employs more than 100 people in the Illawarra and specializes in the overhaul and repair of Underground Mining Equipment and heavy industrial components for the steel, galvanizing and zincalume industries
